Rulers of the Mauryan Empire and their Expansion (322BCE – 184BCE)
The main and important rulers of the Mauryan Empires are Chandragupta Maurya, Bindusara, and Samrat Ashoka. Mauryan Empire. The first king of the Mauryan Empire was Chandragupta Maurya(Founder of the Mauryan Empire), who defeated and killed Dana Nanda of the Nanda Dynasty to establish the Maurya Empire in 322BCE. The administration of his empire maintained itself with the help of Acharya Chanakya, also known as Vishnugupta and Kautilya. Acharya Chanakya was the legal or Royal advisor of Chandragupta Maurya.

There were nine rulers in the history of the Maurya Empire but only three rulers were famous for their reign. They were Chandragupta Maurya, Samrat Bindusara, and Ashoka the Great.
1. Chandragupta Maurya (322BCE – 297BCE)

Chandragupta Maurya was the first historical king of India. He was credited with saving the country from maladministration and freeing it from foreign domination. He established a vast empire by putting an end to the existence of small and petty states. Chandragupta Maurya also defeated Persian General Seleucus Nicator. He divided his empire into provinces, then districts for tax assessments and law enforcement. In 301BCE he gave up his throne & became a Jain monk with extreme Buddhism)
